Fan belt

A fan belt, also known as a drive belt or serpentine belt (in modern vehicles), is a crucial component in a vehicle’s engine system. It connects the engine’s crankshaft to various accessories such as the alternator, power steering pump, water pump and air conditioning compressor, allowing them to operate efficiently. In older vehicles, the fan belt specifically powered the engine cooling fan, but in most modern vehicles, a single serpentine belt drives multiple components. Over time, fan belts can wear out, crack, or become loose, leading to squealing noises, overheating or failure of essential systems. Regular inspection and timely replacement of the fan belt are important for maintaining overall vehicle performance and preventing unexpected breakdowns.
